Description

Two large ice shelves colliding into one another in a selfish and aggressive exchange, but as the sun reflects shimmering on the glassy blue surface and the air begins to thaw away, what breathtaking piece of work they both make.

“Shit that was too close.” she mumbled breathlessly. The air was more humid than usual that day as mating season was on the rise as well as the sub zero temperatures. She could feel the buzzing cries of her colony as they waddled mindlessly past the ice cave’s entrance. It was weird, but safe.

“You should have been more careful, Terra.”
“Shut up Quincy!” Her partner cried out plopping onto her belly and digging at the frozen below with her toes. The sounds echoed through through the cave.
Though the group was on the hunt for the two girls after being caught once again stealing valuables. They wouldn’t be caught today. The rookery was far too loud passing by to notice Terra’s cries in protest. She continues wailing- this time in a lower throaty call and wiggling her body all around in a pout. Quincy opens her mouth to speak but Terra cuts her off again.
“You know I hate it here! I hate it here! Its cold. Its empty and there is no fish!” Quincy didn’t understand why any of them ever talked ever because there was nothing she didnt already see upon Terra’s body language. At the same time, there was so much she didn’t understand about her new partner in crime from another world.
“Terra …”
“This is your fault! and now Im going to die stuck here in a frozen wasteland bucket because of you.” Her South African accent was thick when she was upset. It made Quincy secretly smile in the back of her mind but on the outside she throws her head up at this. “What? don’t blame me! Im not the one who got aimlessly lost in the ocean and needed saving.”
“No no no, you are the one who needs saving!”

Then the two are awkwardly silent for a moment. Quincy is looking down tensely at her exhausted girlfriend, feeling the pit in her stomach growing from more than just starvation. The rookery is far long gone, and because there was no wind that day, all that could be heard was the sound of the ice shelves groaning all around them, but no cracks. Defining silence, they could practically hear each others thoughts of frustration.

Terra shifts uncomfortably. The cold was settling in and she wasn’t used to it yet.
“Like, you were lonely without me.”

Who was this girl? Why did she flee? Why does she keep doing it? Perhaps its best to not know. Quincy nods and tugs are her hood a bit. After all, she wasn’t about to reviele the pathetic things she did chasing romance and wealth. Who knows, maybe her experiencs werent as different. So they remained as sad wet black eyes blinked at each other in defeat. It had been a pretty emotional day. But what choice did they have but to sit there and enjoy each other’s body warmth in wonder?

Nice job with the ice. Among one of the hardest effects to produce. ^v^
